PostHeaderIcon Do you need renters insurance if mold has ruined belongings?

I discovered mold today behind my mothers entertainment center which is pretty valuable. As soon and I pulled out everything the whole bottom of the three pieces of the furniture were falling apart. The whole carpet is soaked as well. called the land lord and she told us that my mom should of gotten renters insurance. It's not my mom's fault that she has mold right? I mean there is no foundation. The apartment is pretty shitty. Also my mom is getting rental assistance and they are saying she needs a letter from our landlord to prove that she has seen the mold, does this make sense?
